Hmmm. So what you are saying is you can go into a restaurant or free wireless area and connect OK but you can't connect to your home router?

The usual reason you can't connect to a modem/router is the password is not right. It has to be exact.

Another reason is you may have the modem/router set to use only N speed and your computer is only rated at G so it can't connect. Make sure the Modem/Router is set for ALL speeds.

Make sure the Security mode is the same on both devices, WPA2 on the modem/router has to be WPA2 on the computer. Some devices won't connect with TKIP or AES try one then the other.

Sometimes even the channel your on can make a difference if you don't have it the same on both of them. Try putting the Modem/router channel selector on auto if you have it.

Make sure your computer is trying to connect to yournetwork and not your neighbors by mistake.

What is the function of modem card to the CPU?

A modem is a serial port interface to a telephone line, allowing you to create dialup connections to other modem equipped computers. Often, a modem card includes a serial port interface, a COM port. The term modem has also become applicable to other interfaces, such as DSL modems and cable modems, though that usage is tenuous in some cases. Modem stands for Modulator/Demodulator.

What is the difference between hard and soft modem?

There are two basic parts to a modem: the datapump and the controller. The datapump regulates the transforming of digital signals into analog and analog into digital. The controller tells the modem how to behave/connect and how to interpret initialization strings. A hardware modem has hardware chips do both of these functions, while a software modem has software on the computer perform the same tasks. Software modems are sometimes called WinModems. Basically there are two types of software modems. They are Controllerless and HSP modems. Controllerless modems have software do the part of the controller, but the datapump is still hardware. HSP modems are completely software driven except for the most basic functionality. In an HSP modem, both the controller and the datapump are in software. Winmodems have a different set of problems than hardware modems because they depend heavily on resources and memory on the computer. A slow computer or one that is always running high-end programs will not have enough resources to give to a software modem, and this could cause disconnections or a host of other problems. Also, just like normal Windows programs, the software on these modems can crash, meaning that you'll have to restart your computer to get the modem to respond again.

What is the difference between a modem and wireless router?

Modems are hardware devices that translate an analog signal into a language your computer (or other digital device) can understand. They are often used to create an Internet connection through telephone ("dial-up") or cable lines. Wireless modems are typically used in portable devices such as laptop computers, mobile phones, and PDAs. These modems receive a signal over the air, such as from a cellular network, and not from a physical ground line. Routers are used to share the Internet connection created by a modem with one or more other machines connected to it. To use a router for anything other than creating a local network, you would need to connect it to the Internet via a modem. Wireless routers can perform this function without the need for ethernet cables. In this case, each machine needs a compatible wireless network adapter that uses an antenna to receive the signal broadcasted from the router. Because household routers are almost always used with modems, some hardware manufacturers have begun combining the two in a single physical device: the modem router. A wireless modem router is typically a hybrid of a traditional modem (which receives data through a physical cable) and a wireless router (which broadcasts the connection over a wireless network).

How can you connect 2 laptops with same modem your modem has 4 ports on back please reply back with the configuration part too ..?

Ok, if your modem has 4 ports on the back, you need an ethernet cable. Also known as RJ45 connectors. Plug one in from the laptop to the router, and do the same with the other laptop. Then on one laptop, click Control Panel, Set up a small office or home network.

Can I connect my PC to my DSL line via one modem and simultaneously connect my VOIP phone in a different location with a different modem to the same DSL line?

No you can not. To further explain more information is needed. When you say "different Location" are you talking about another room in a house? or a different place all together? If it is just in a different room then you want to use a router to connect multiple devices to one modem. If it is the latter, the reason you cannot have 2 different modems is because you Service provider of you DSL internet will not allow you to have 2 modems active at the same time. When you activated your DSL with your service provider the "Provisioned" your modem to their network. In other words they allowed that one specific modem access to the internet. The Serial number and the MAC address on the modem are what your service provider put into their system to allow that specific modem onto their network. In order for you two have 2 different modems active at the same time they will charge you 2 access fee's, basically just double what your current internet bill is. Hope that helped :)

Piece of equipment that allows a computer to connect to a phone line called?

It's called a Modem which stands for Modulator/Demodulator. Modems take digital signals from the sending computer and convert these signals into Analog so they can be transmitted over wire (phone or cable). On the receiving computer, the Analog signals are then converted back to Digital in order for the computer to decipher the information.

Is there a cable modem with phone jack for comcast?

An ethernet cable may look like a phone cable but it is not and would not serve any purpose to connect one to your phone line. The Cable modem has an ethernet cable as an output to a PC, router, or other device and not an input to provide internet access
