When Augustus gained power over the Roman Empire, he declared war on Antony and Cleopatra and defeated them in 31 BC. Augustus arrived in Alexandria and demanded Cleopatra's surrender.

Even though these events took place in Cleo's early life, they were more about her father than about Cleopatra herself.
