reverse polarity and straight polarity
The answer is right but a bit of furthur explanation is required. Polarity can be changed in DC output welding sets. The heat of the welding arc is concentrated on the positive terminal. So when thick plates are welded as more concentration of heat is required on the job the job is kept +ve ie. straight polarity is used.
For thin plates concentration of heat is on the filler rod ,so reverse polarity is used.
A dc is an acronym for direct current & 2 be put in to use, changed to ac which could then be used in welding
DCEP supplies about two-thirds of the heat at the end of the rod, which allows more digging action, or penetration, into the base metal. It's what you want to use for thick steel. For thin steel, direct current electrode negative (DCEN) is best.
in welding machine, the transformer used is basically a current transforrmer. so by changing the tap of secondary side of transformer, we can increase or decrease the current in the transformer.
Alternating current. Direct current is used in batteries.
Welding current is typically generated through a power source that converts electrical energy into a suitable form for welding. This can be done through mechanisms like transformers, rectifiers, or inverters, depending on the type of welding process being used. The current is then delivered to the welding arc, where it generates the heat necessary to melt and join the workpieces.
The new principal inside welding machines is based on metal-arc welding, whereas the older welding machines used electromagnetic winding to increase the current in welding rods.
DC are the letters for direct current AC are the letters for alternating current

An example of direct current is the current used from a car battery to activate the starter motor. Also the flashlight uses direct current.
DC direct current
Direct Current or DC
welding rod is used without applying current through it while the other one is, current is passing thru it..i.e. Welding rods are used in TIG welding process while Electrodes (E6011, E6013, E7017..etc..) is used in SMAW process
