An avatar is a picture/icon used to represent a person on a website or instant messenger.
You can add an avatar to your profile page! Here's how:Option 1: You have an Answers.com usernameWhen signed in, go to My Settings.Scroll down to the section called, Connect your account.Choose one of the social ID options listed (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google or Yahoo!). You can simply click on the icon for the ID you want to connect with your account. You accounts have been 'merged' - what this means is, the avatar you use on the social ID will be imported to your profile - you'll see it at the top of the profile page, to the left of your username.Note: It will only import the avatar and a link to your social profile on the site you chose from. Also, you can 'disconnect' your social ID from your Answers.com account at any time by returning to My Settings and click to disconnect accounts.Option 2: You are not yet registered on Answers.comIf you do not yet have a username on Answers.com, you can either register for one or you can just register straight through the social ID of your choice. The latter will do the same as steps 3 and 4 above, but you won't have to adjust anything in your settings.

On a technical level, it is not a personal website because you are just creating a profile as part of a larger social network. You can't change the coding of the page or take clear ownership of it, for example.
