Since 56K dialup modems are a very old technology, it will be very difficult to find the part that you are looking for. Ebay.com may have what you are looking for, however.
You can get rid of dial up by switching to high speed or dsl. Try getting a $10 deal from AT&T, which is hard to find but is well worth the offer for a non dial up internet connection.
Buy yourself a Creative Labs Modem Blaster. It's a card that will go inside your tower and not only give you dial up Internet Capabilities, but a speaker phone as well. You could go even cheaper, but they are so cheap now days the Modem Blaster is down to next to nothing and is a good quality modem.
Best Buy would probably be your best choice for finding a cheap cable modem. You can also try CompUSA. If you can wait a week or so, look on ebay. You can usually finsd a good deal on electronic items.

RJ-11 is simply a standard conventional telephone jack, and RJ is short for "registered jack." If you find two RJ-11 connectors on the back of a computer, it means the computer has a dial-up modem. One of the connectors connects to a telephone wall jack. The other connector can be attached to a telephone. Most modems were made to where if the modem is in active use, any phone plugged into the modem would be disconnected so as to not interfere with the modem.
Dial up internet is becoming hard to find. You can get dial up internet thru AOL if you like.
Hold the windows key then hit the pause/break key, go to device manager and find modems in the list, click on modems and find your modem in the list, right click your modem and click properties.
