There is no area code 149 in North America (USA, Canada, etc.). Area codes in North America never begin with 1.

Country code +1 is North America, but there are also no area codes beginning with 49.

In the UK, there are area codes beginning with +44 149X (or 0149X in UK domestic format), but you need the next digit.

Other countries may have domestic area codes like 149.

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but North America (USA, Canada, etc.) uses 011, Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)
