Spoons are better for foods with high liquid content such as soups and sauces, because it allows the food to be transported to your mouth with less spillage. Forks are better for solid foods, because bulkier foods speared and transported much like a pitchfork, making it less awkward. Forks also work better with long thin noodle dishes as the noodles can be spooled by inserting the fork and giving a twisting motion.
