Backup sensors may stop working due to several reasons, including a blown fuse, faulty wiring, or damaged sensors themselves. Accumulation of dirt, ice, or debris on the sensors can also hinder their functionality. Additionally, issues with the vehicle's computer system or software glitches can affect sensor performance. Regular maintenance and inspections can help identify and resolve these problems.

The backup sensors are located in the rear bumper. The four circles on the bumper.
Probably your thermostat has stopped working. I've had this problem several times.
The hex bug larva sensors may have stopped working due to several reasons, such as battery depletion, dirt or debris obstructing the sensors, or damage to the internal components. If the batteries are low, replacing them might resolve the issue. Additionally, cleaning the sensors and ensuring there are no physical obstructions could restore functionality. If these steps don't work, the sensors may need repair or replacement.
To replace the backup sensors on a 2003 Ford Explorer, first, locate the sensors on the rear bumper. Remove the bumper cover by unscrewing the necessary fasteners and disconnect any electrical connectors attached to the sensors. Replace the old sensors with new ones, reconnect the connectors, and reattach the bumper cover securely. Finally, test the sensors to ensure they are functioning properly.
I would definitely check to see if your speed sensors are working correctly. If you own a 99 like I do, you should have 2, an input and an output. If one or both of those speed sensors stop working then the RPM gague stops working and the car will not shift.
I have a 98 Concorde. My backup lights stopped working and I had my independent garage mechanic check it out while working on another problem and he told me the switch is internal, inside the transmission housing. I didn't pursue it futher. I'm not about to have them tear into the transmission just to replace a simple switch. Another example of Chrysler's wonderful engineering.
No...if it was a fuse the circuit wouldn't work regardless of what you do with the switch. Sounds like its the sensors
