the socket
The backup light switch is mounted on the transmission casing.
There are no fuses for the dash lights. Are your dash lights not working? If not, then you will need the instrument cluster refurbished. I can do this for you, contact me at ANCTechnologies at hotmail
More than likely you will need to replace the backup light switch on the transmission case.
replae backup light switch on transmission
There is no relay for the backup lights. The circuit is powered by the keyswitch, runs thru a 10 amp fuse on the interior fuse block, then goes through a switch mounted on the transmission, and on to the lights. The switch is on the front of the manual transmission, and on the lower front of the automatic.
On the transmission lever there is a backup light switch which makes contact with the backup light circuit when you place the lever in R. The circuit then sends current to the backup lights and they come on. When you move the shift lever out of Reverse, the circuit is broken and the lights go out. The problem you probably have is a dirty swicth where the contacts meet from the lever to the switch. If the contacts are dirty, you will get intermittent current to the lights. So find the switch on the lever, use some rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts and it may fix it. If not, then your backup light switch may be going bad, but try cleaning the one you have before investing in a new one.
Check the backup light switch.
Assuming the signal lights still work, no. But a bad brake light switch or a blown brake light fuse could.
The white parts of the tail lights are the reverse lights.
Did you recently change or install something in your car like a stereo or GPS?
There is a switch in the transmission (manual) and I believe also automatic that triggers your backup lights when you move (change gears) into reverse. If the switch (in the transmission) does not touch (trigger) the backup light switch; or if the switch is not working; you will not have any reverse lights. Also , if you have had any changes in your transmission due to lifting the body, or changing the original transmission; the lever that triggers the switch may not be able to come in contact with the backup light switch in the transmission. If you have this switch replaced by a garage it may run around $160 for the switch and another $100 to $200 for labor. If the transmission does not trigger the backup light switch in the first place ,due to changes in the transmission, or a body lift; then changing the switch will not make any difference; the backup lights still will not work.
Are both lights coming on and staying on? sometimes when a light is out on the front or rear the lights just come on and will not blink.
