Simply put, the answer is no. However smoking increases the risk of dying from a smoking related illness. Personally I have known people that have had Heart disease and lung cancer and have never touched a cigarette, also a couple relatives of mine are in their 90's and have smoked since their teen years, and they are as healthy or better than the average nonsmoker for that age. Overall the odds are in your favor of having a longer and healthier life if you don't smoke. There are many variables here including how much you smoke, how long, genetic background.
