In 1750 the canals would have been powered via horse-power with horse's walking alongside the boat on the path physically pulling the boat along. In 1900 boats started to get more technologically advanced, as even though they didnt yet have motrised vehicles they would have been able to use canals alot easier, quicker and it would have been much simpler. Im relly sorry if this isnt a very good answer but I am only 16 years old and Im at college and am currently doing an assignment which I need to know this myself and This is the most I know :)
