Henry Hudson sailed down by North Carolina. He started to immediately go North, exploring Chesapeake Bay and Delaware Bay. He then started to go further up, and traveled into what is now called the Hudson River. :)

It starts in Minnesota, so the answer is No. The Mississippi River does not go into Canada.
Henry Hudson wanted to go to Asia for trading purposes but, ended up going to America and Canada. He founded two water lands (Hudson River and Hudson Bay). He even died in one of the water lands that he had founded!
