The Burj Dubai (renamed Burj Khalifa) was designed to be the tallest man-made structure in the world, and to make Dubai more famous.
The building is the centerpiece for the Downtown Dubai development in the business district of Dubai, one of the United Arab Emirates. The new name came after the emirate received financial backing from the President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, ruler of neighboring Abu Dhabi.
