It's pretty easy. Take the Uptown 2 train (of the 1-2-3, the red line) from 34th Street-Penn Station to the East Tremont Avenue/West Farms Square stop (that's the next stop after 174th Street). From there, walk uptown (follow the Uptown 2 train's path) 2 1/2 blocks to the Asia Gate entrance of the zoo.
To travel from Penn Station to 851 Grand Concourse in the Bronx, take the 2 subway line from 34th Street-Penn Station station towards Wakefield-241st Street. Transfer at the 149th Street-Grand Concourse station to the 4 or 5 line, and then continue to the 167th Street station. From there, it's a short walk to your destination at 851 Grand Concourse.
You take the subway to New York City Penn Station. Then you get on a Northeastern Regional train going south to Philadelphia. Trains leave Penn Station regularly.

To get from 178th Street in Manhattan to the Bronx Zoo, you can take the subway. Head to the 181st Street station and take the A train to 125th Street, then transfer to the 2 train towards the Bronx. Get off at the Pelham Parkway station, and the zoo is a short walk from there. Alternatively, you could take a bus or drive, but public transit is often the quickest option.
