The Eastern Woodlands was a cultural area of the indigenous peoples of North America. The Eastern Woodlands region is home to tribes such as the Iroquois and Algonquin. The Lakota historically inhabited areas that include present-day North and South Dakota. Their cultural practices and lifestyle are significantly influenced by the vast plains environment rather than the forested regions of the East.
The Eastern Woodlands believed in the Great Spirit which was a supernatural being. They also believed that there was constant interaction between the physical and spiritual world.
