Four that I'm aware of, all American.
The USS Yorktown (CV-10) at Patriots' Point in Charleston Harbor, Charleston SC; The USS Intrepid (CV-11) in New York City; the USS Hornet (CV-12) at the former Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA; and the USS Lexington (CV-16) at Corpus Christi, TX.
The rest of the Essex Class carriers were all scrapped or scuttled. The USS Enterprise (CV-6), the only pre-war carrier to survive the war, and the ship that was in all the major battles, was also cut up for scrap.
The USS Midway (CV-41) is now a museum ship in San Diego, CA. She was commissioned nine days after Japan surrendered.
The Japanese had 10 classes of carriers during the time
Oh, my word, yes. Many major battles, especially in the Pacific, involved ships of every kind, including carriers. See links.
The U.S. Navy has many different types of ships that each have certain roles. Some ships are: hospital ships, aircraft carriers, supply ships, destroyers, frigates, submarines, amphibious ships and hovercraft. There are many other types also.
USN had 3 carriers and 50 support vessels; IJN had 4 carriers, 7 battlehips and 150 support vessels.
Approximately 1,300 to 1,500 big ships (such as oil tankers, container ships, and bulk carriers) are built each year worldwide.
Found a good website to answer your question. www.ww2pacific.com/notpearl
more than 100,000 ships
I know the United States has 9 aircraft carriers. Rest of the world??
The ships that carries so many combat aircrafts are called aircraft carriers because they are designed for carrying warplanes, they are also called warships that has missiles and heavy machine-guns that allows them to fire back against their enemies. Aircraft carriers are the World's biggest warship and it can take lots of punishments to sink. Aircraft carriers are really strong and it is not easy to sink the carrier because they are really huge. Aircraft carriers cannot sink in one hit. The only way to sink it is to find a weakest spot or take the torpedo that does an incredibly powerful damages to bigger combat ships and any other huge ships.
There are about 80,000 ocean-going ships in the world.
There are aircraft carriers all over the world. America has about 16 of various types. Many other countries also have aircraft carriers.
Ships were used for every conceivable purpose in WW2. They were cargo transports, troop transports, weapons transports, rocket launching ships, tank landing ships. minehunters. minelayers, sub hunters, fast attack ships, destroyers, frigates, control and comms ships, cruisers, battleships, aircraft carriers, sub tenders, anti aircraft gunships and many more specialised uses.
