Believe it or not, humans did once live in the desert. Not all of us, of coarse. But recently 'mummies' have been found of people with skin, bone, hair and nails still in tact along with clothes and make-up.

It is virtually unknown what they eat and such, but scientists say there was livestock with them, yet what they ate is a mystery.

But, back to the original question, to live in the desert, we might develop into a much smaller creature with rapidly growing nails to dig, for underground, it is much cooler and the smaller the creature, the quicker it loses body heat.
