Badaling is a town in China approximately 70 kilometers/43 miles northwest of Beijing in Yanqing Province. This town contains a well-known section of the Great Wall of China. Due to its proximity to Beijing, it is one of the most popular and thus touristy and sections of the Great Wall. Though dramatically situated in the Jundoushan Mountains, this section was extensively rebuilt beginning in 1953 and is considered by many to be the least authentic representation of this ancient fortification.

How do you find The Great Wall of China site?

There is no one site for the Great Wall of China. The wall is, by some estimates, over 3,000 miles long. It is so long, you can see it from space. One of the most popular sites for the Great Wall is in Badaling, near Beijing. This section of the wall has been rebuilt and many tourists visit Badaling. There is even a Starbucks at the entrance to the Great Wall at Badaling. You can take a ski lift to the wall at the top of a mountain in Badaling, or you can walk along the top of the wall until you reach the peak of the same mountain. The walkway along the top of the wall is quite steep in some places, level in others. You can buy t-shirts and other souvenirs at the bottom of the wall in Badaling. Some parts of the whole Great Wall (not in Badaling) are little more than dirt piled into a wall. Other parts are composed of individual blocks. Some parts have trees growing into the wall, and other parts are badly crumbled. There are rumors that, when the builders of the Great Wall died while building the wall, their bodies were buried inside the wall. Some people think the ghosts of those builders haunt the Great Wall. In Beijing, many people will try to sell you a tourist package to see the Great Wall. You can visit the rebuilt site of Badaling by bus. Other packages take you to the older, broken down pieces of the Great Wall. The bus trip from Beijing to Badaling is approximately two hours.

How did China build the Great Wall of China?

The Great Wall of China remained the same but the materials they used changed over time. The Wall was first built using a mix of mud and gravel. Then over time when another emperor came he decided he wanted to change the materials. Instead of a mix of mud and gravel he decided to change it to bricks and stone.

When was the construction of the great wall of china starts?

Apparently the first wall ever build in China was the wall of Qi (not Qin!), build in 400 bc. Although it didn't look the same way like we know the wall from tv or pictures. It was more like a mass of dirt.

What forces does the Great Wall of China have to withstand?

What were the effects of the Great Wall of China?

It made the world a smaller place. And made it bigger at the same time. The answer is "The Great Wall of China impacted the world very slowly," since the verb impact really means "to run into something, or to hit it." Slow building, laying a few bricks at a time. If you meant "How did the Wall affect the world?" the answer is "Only symbolically," as all such efforts do, being a sign to its enemies that the State was weak and a reminder to its people that the State was heartless.

Is the wall built by qin shihuangdi is the same Great Wall of China we know today?

Essentially, yes. He sent his slaves and criminals to Northern China to build a fortified wall as a line of defense against nomadic descendants of Atilla the Hun, whom he believed would invade. This fortification was the beginning of what is now known as the Great Wall, which was completed in the Ming Dynasty.

Whose walls were not as big as China's but were built for the same reasons?
