In January 2006 a juvenile female Northern Bottlenose Whale managed to swim from the North Sea up as far as Battersea Bridge in central London. It resisted all attempts to guide her back to sea and eventually died on a rescue boat as they headed back to the estuary.

What is the widest point of the Thames?

Westminster bridge, just in front of the Houses of Parliament, is 826.8 ft (252m) wide, which is a fairly good indication of the width of the river at the point most visitors would see it. A few miles upstream, at Hammersmith, the bridge is only 700 ft (210m), whilst at Dartford, the last bridge on the Thames before the open sea, the bridge is 2,664 ft (812m) long.----This question is the same as - how long is a piece of string. How did people cross the thames river?

A2. By boat bridges and fords.A1 In early days, you would swim, or perhaps use a small craft. But when the Romans came, they built the first wooden bridge, about the limit of the Tidal Reach up the river. Boadicea didn't like that and burnt it, but it was re built. And a long time later, the stone bridge at that location was sold to the US, and re-erected there.(With the arrival of motorized traffic, the Brits had tried to widen it, but this made the weight too excessive for the piers and it started to sink! Hence the need for the new (now) London Bridge. )

Where does the river thames go after teddingtons lock?

It depends if you are going upstream or downstream. If you are going downstream, there are no more locks after Teddington and the river will be tidal until you reach the estuary where it discharges into the North Sea. If you are travelling upstream, there are several locks and the river passes through Windsor, Reading and Oxford among other places to reach its source in Gloucestershire.
