The Sahel is not a desert. It is is the strip of land of semi-arid grasslands, savannas, steppes, and thorn shrublands lying between the Sahara desert in the North and the wooded Sudanian savannas in the south. It stretches across the north of the African continent between the Atlantic Ocean and the Red Sea. The Sahel covers parts of the countries of Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Algeria and Eritrea.
The countries located in the Sahara Desert that also border the Mediterranean Sea are Algeria, Libya, and Tunisia. These nations feature both vast desert landscapes and coastlines along the Mediterranean, blending arid environments with maritime influences. Morocco, while primarily known for its mountainous regions and coastal areas, also has parts of the Sahara, but its Mediterranean coast does not directly connect with the desert expanse.
