Fresh water flows into the sea at a place called the river delta. Depending on the geography of the delta, over time, the waters mix and the composition of the delta water establishes its unique saline content.
The saline content of the delta is lower than the saline content of the sea and higher than the saline content of the river, which should be zero.
You can read more about river deltas, below.

A large stream of surface water is usually called a river. A river is freshwater and runs from high to low ground.
Large streams of surface water are called rivers. Rivers flow downstream towards larger bodies of water, such as lakes or oceans, and play a key role in shaping the landscape and supporting ecosystems.

No. Most sharks stay only in salt water, and lakes are fresh water. A few swim some distance into rivers, so for a shark to ever end up in a lake, the lake has to be connected to a river that runs out into the sea, and fairly close to the coast too.
Lakes are open water, backwater would describe a tributary that supplies a lake or where it runs off into lower country.
Freshwater fish need regular water without salt, Marine fish need salt water. Marine fish are more colorful and interesting then freshwater fish but they are a lot harder to look after than freshwater fish. Saltwater fish need more water to swim in and are more fragile than freshwater fish.
