Lake Ladoga, located in northwestern Russia, originated during the last Ice Age, approximately 12,000 years ago. It was formed by glacial activity, where retreating glaciers carved out the basin that now holds the lake. As the glaciers melted, they filled this depression with water, creating the largest lake in Europe. The lake has since been shaped by geological and hydrological processes, including the influx of rivers and precipitation.
