The materias used to build the Alnwick Castle were stones, clay, sand, wood, concrete and rocks.

Nobody knows for sure who built Edinburgh Castle. It is known that the site has been used by humans since the 9th century BC. However, most of the present buildings date from the early 17th century, as the previous buildings on the site were destroyed by bombardment.
The name comes from King Edwin of Northumbria who established a fort called Edwin's Fort, (or Din Eidyn in gaelic) where Edinburgh Castle now stands. It was later renamed Edwinesburch (Edynbroch); burch or broch is another name for a a fort. Ultimatley the name became Edinburgh which it is called today.
