Mt. Everest. It doesn't matter if it was discovered or not. It was still the tallest mountain. -Aura :)
it was nothing!!! MT. EVEREST WAS STILL THE HIGHEST...JUST NOT DISCOVERED YET!
It was still Mount Everest. Mount Everest is in Asia, in the Old World, and so was not recently discovered by Europeans.
k2 is the mountain
Until 1852, Kangchenjunga was assumed to be the highest mountain in the world standing at 8,586m or 28,169ft high.
Until 1852, Kangchenjunga was assumed to be the highest mountain in the world, but calculations based on various readings and measurements made by the Great Trigonometric Survey of India in 1849 came to the conclusion that Mount Everest, known as Peak XV at the time, was the highest.
Mount Everest was the highest mountain regardless of whether it was discovered or not. Due to tectonic movements, Mount Everest was growing since the dawn of humanity some 2-4 million years ago. Before that it is possible that Everest wasn't the highest mountain, but since there aren't any records stating height of mountains, then we could technically say that Everest has always been the highest mountain regardless of whether humans or their descendants named a higher mountain.
The tallest mountain in the world is Mount Everest at 29,028 feet. It was first climbed by Sir Edmund Hilary in May 1953.
