Isambard Kingdom Brunel did not build the Forth Bridge; it was actually designed by Sir Benjamin Baker and Sir John Fowler. The construction of the Forth Bridge began in 1882 and was completed in 1890. Brunel is well-known for his work on the Great Western Railway and the design of several iconic structures, but the Forth Bridge is not one of them.
It is a suspension bridge- designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, work began on it in 1831 but the project was dogged by technical problems, and when Brunel died in 1859, only the towers had been completed, the rest of it having been abandoned sixteen years earlier. Brunel was still working on ideas as to how it could be completed at the time of his death. It was finally completed in 1864 as Brunel's official memorial.
