North Korea launched an attack on its neighbor, South Korea, by crossing the 38th parallel in June 1950. This attack resulted in the Korean War.
The 38th parallel does not cross Nebraska. It is primarily known for its significance in dividing North and South Korea. In the United States, the 38th parallel runs through several states, including California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland, but it does not enter Nebraska.

At the Potsdam Conference the US and the Soviet Union agreed that each would invade the Korean Peninsula to defeat the Japanese there. The Soviet Union was to attack from the North and the US from the south. They would both stop at the 38th parallel.
