The river Salween is the longest river in the Himalayan region It is 2400km long and it originates in the Tangula mountains in the Himalyas in the Tibetan Plateau. From here it flows south through Yunnan Province of China down through Shan and Kyah states of Burma (Myanmar) along the Thai-Burma border passing through kayan and Mon States (Burma) before emptying into the Gulf of Martaban in the Andaman Sea.
