Hudson's Bay Lowlands, a wetland complex of dominated by peatlands (wetlands with greater than 40 cm of organic soil) with some mineral soil wetlands. The peatlands are comprised mostly of treed, shrubby, and open rich fens, with some treed, shrubby, and open bogs, and some conifer swamp. The mineral soil wetlands include shrub swamps, marshes, and shallow water wetlands.
The whole complex is approximately 374,000 square kilometres and in addition to being Canada's largest wetland complex, is the third largest wetland in the world.
