The first permanent English settlement in the United States was located along the Atlantic Coast, specifically in Jamestown, Virginia, established in 1607. This site marked the beginning of English colonization in North America.
The Pacific Coast of the United States is made up of the coastlines of the states that border the Pacific Ocean: California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. It generally refers to the first three. Many other countries, and the State of Hawai'i, have Pacific Coasts as well.
Emily Carr was a Canadian artist and writer whose works were influenced by the first nations peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast. Her works are still regarded as leading examples in bith of these areas.
