Contiguous United States
48 states are part of the contiguous United States. Alaska and Hawaii do not touch any other U.S. state.
The United States does not touch the Indian Ocean, or the Arctic Ocean(very far north). Also the waters that surround Antarctica, now called the Southern Ocean (very far south) is not bordered by the United States.
All the states except for Hawaii and Alaska. In other words, the contiguous states of America consists of all the states that touch each other, and Hawaii and Alaska are outside of the happy little circle. But they're still states. :)
Sort of. The 50 states touch three oceans, the Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic Oceans. The "lower 48" states, also known as the contiguous United States have the Atlantic Ocean on the East and Pacific Oceans on the West. The Gulf of Mexico is part of the Atlantic Ocean and that is to the south. Alaska has the Arctic Ocean on the north and Pacific Ocean on the south. So the technically the three oceans do not "surround" the United States, but there are three oceans that border the United States.
The 48 American states whose borders are shared with one or more states are contiguous. The remaining two states, Hawaii and Alaska, do not have borders that touch any other American state. They are, therefore, not contiguous states.
Contiguous states are those that share a common border without any gaps or interruptions. In the United States, all states except Alaska and Hawaii are considered contiguous, as they are connected to each other. For example, states like California, Nevada, and Oregon touch each other, while states in the Midwest, such as Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, also share borders. Overall, the contiguous U.S. consists of 48 states that form a continuous landmass.
In the United States, 48 states touch at least one other state. The only exceptions are Alaska and Hawaii; Alaska is separated from the contiguous U.S. and only shares a border with Canada, while Hawaii is an isolated island chain in the Pacific Ocean.

The Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Gulf of Mexico all touch the united states.
The Southern Ocean and the Indian Ocean are the only oceans not to touch the United States. That means the United States touches the Pacific (Alaska, Hawaii, and West Coast), the Atlantic (East Coast), and the Arctic Oceans (Alaska).
