Captain James Cook and Captain George Vancouver!
James Cook
Lewis and Clark
During his exploration, George Vancouver mapped the northwest Pacific coast of North America and claimed parts of it for the British Empire. He found numerous rivers, mountains, and harbors that he named after British figures.
The Paraná River was first explored by Spanish conquistador Sebastián Cabot in 1526 during his expedition to find a passage to the Pacific Ocean. While he is credited with its European discovery, the river had been known to Indigenous peoples long before his arrival. Subsequent explorers, including the Portuguese and other Spanish explorers, further mapped the river and its surroundings.
Jacques Cartier explored the St. Lawrence region of Canada. He also claimed what is now Canada for France, naming the area he discovered and mapped "The Country of Canadas", a Saint-Lawrence Iroquoian word kanata (or canada) for "settlement", "village", or "land".
Captain Cook and Captain Vancouver
Explorers claimed the new land for their home country, established settlements or trading posts, mapped the terrain, interacted with indigenous peoples, and exploited the resources they found.
