The silent six were six black politicians in Chicago's city council during the 1960's who were "puppets " of Mayor Richard J Daley. These alderman were under the control of Daley and were not allowed to speak or participate in council proceedings unless they received a signal from Thomas Keane, Daley's floor leader or Daley himself. They were: William Campbell 20th ward, Robert Miller 6th ward, William Harvey, 2nd ward, Benjamin Lewis 24th ward, Ralph Metcalf 3rd ward, Claude Holman 4th ward.
