Forests are full of trees, and for animal and human respiration, trees are important. Plants and trees use carbon dioxide in the process of photosynthesis, the waste output being oxygen, which then supplies animals and humans with oxygen to breathe. Trees contribute towards providing breathable air for all animal species, therefore they are called the lungs of the earth.
It's described as the long because the amazon rainforest is the world's number one source for oxygen and since we all use oxygen to live it acts as a lung working through our body. We need the lung to help us breathe as we do the amazon rainforest.
Forests are called the lungs of the Earth as they give us oxygen. Earth actually do not have any lung but forest acts as a lung. Like when we inhale oxygen, this oxygen goes into lungs and when we exhale carbon dioxide, this gas is exhaled from lungs. Similarly, forest exhale oxygen and inhale carbon dioxide. So, the forest acts a lung.

The lung is enclosed by a thin memrane called pleura
The top of the lung is called the apex. It is the highest point of each lung, located just above the clavicle and extending into the root of the neck. The apex plays a role in the overall function of the lung, allowing for the expansion and contraction needed for breathing.
