Despite popular belief, Ancient Mew is not expensive at all. I managed to get my hands on about seven, each completely genuine and only £2 each.
First edition Charizard ex is probably the most expensive card. People have seen them go for over £200 sometimes!

∙ 10y agoThe Pikachu Illustrator which is worth about £20,000. Never officially sold and was never released in English. The cards were given away as prizes in a Japanese drawing contest and only four are thought to exist. There was one recently on ebay for an extortionate amount of money.
Mint Condition, First Edition Charizard can go fro $150+. Lots of people are hooked on buying Charizard cards, and even a second edition badly damaged Charizard can go for $25+. They are just that popular.
"Gold Star" and "Shining" Pokemon cards are extremelypopular. The Shining Cards were brought out when Gen 2-Gold and Silver came out, as these generations of games first introduced "shiny" pokemon-they different colours. Shining Charizard is not the most expensive but it very much wanted by nearly all card collectors, so they would be willing to spend a lot. The Gold Star are exactly the same, but some are more than others- there is a Gold Star Mew which can reach for $50+.
Try ebay to search for them. Beware though, hundreds of other people have the same idea, so whilst have the chance of getting it cheaply, you could be a huge amount as people up their bid.
I would also try local gaming shops-the type that sell Dungeons and Dragons gear. Most likely they deal with cards.
It's worth a shot, but you could also advertise in the local news paper that you are looking for pokemon cards. I did and had lots of families giving me tubs full as long as I picked them up-I found some absolute gems.
