For thousands of years, there have been Board Games; in fact, archaeologists have found evidence of board games played in ancient Egypt. Sociologists note that human beings have long enjoyed creating opportunities for play. Some people participate in sports, for example, but while this can be fun, not everyone is athletic. Thus, the development of board games has provided an opportunity for play that doesn't require strength or athletic skills. Further, board games have brought people together (many of us grew up playing board games with our parents); and these games have also provided a chance to use strategy and logic in order to win-- although some games really are just about having a good time, and being lucky.
