There are no English words that begin with Q and have no u. There are, however, many words like this from other languages, particularly of Middle Eastern (qabalah, qanat) and Chinese (qi, qigong) origins, that are used by English speaking people. What about a QWERTY keyboard? While technically this started as an abbrevation for the first 6 letters on the second row of a keyboard it is now recgonized by Websters as a word. There is also qiviut - the wool of the undercoat of the musk ox. This word originated from the Inuit language, but it is considered Americanism by Websters.

There are many, most being loanwords. The codified spelling of English words added the U to indicate the QU sound was a "KW" sound as in quick.

However, some words (common and proper nouns) have entered English as variant phonetic spellings from languages such as Arabic, Hebrew, and Chinese. Although they appear in dictionaries, most are not included in spell-check programs.

* Examples (a large list is found at the related link):

burqa (burkha, a covering)

coq (feathers, from French coquerel)

faqir (fakir)

fiqh (Muslim jurisprudence)

miqra (Tanakh, Hebrew Bible)

qaddish (prayer or Kaddish)

qaf (Arabic alphabet letter)

qanat (aqueduct tunnel)

qat (a type of shrub, khat)

qi (Chinese, life force, also chi)

qindar (Albanian currency)

qoph (Hebrew letter)

sambuq (a type of boat, or Dhow)

sheqel (Israeli currency, shekel)

souq (marketplace, or souk)

taluq (India estate)

tsaddiq (Hebrew righteous status, tzaddik)

waqf (charitable trust, Arabic wakf)

yaqona (the Fijian liquor kava)
