Usually it is difficult to remember a new word because you aren't used to it, and haven't used it enough. The trick is to try to fit it into your conversation as much as you can (I suggest making *certain* of its meaning first though... don't want to be embarrassed). If you can't remember it, then put it and the definition on a little index card, or email it to yourself, or something so that you will have it around. Read it, and try to use it during your normal day. If you use it enough, and get a little more compfortable with it, then it will be easier to remember and to incorporate into your daily vocabulary.
