Cooler is generally better, but not so cool that you freeze your head. Some people prefer it much cooler than others, but whatever is your ordinary room termperature is probably too warm for sleep. A little cooling of the body is a trigger to the brain that it is time to sleep. That's why a relaxing bath or shower roughly an hour before bed is an aid to sleep; the body is in a natural cool-down mode. Experiment, and see what gives you the best sleep. Try around 65 degrees F and see how that goes. Don't consider temperature alone. Get that TV out of the bedroom; your bed is for two important activities, and TV is NOT one of them. Keep the bedroom as quiet as possible, and don't eat or drink anything for several hours before trying to sleep. Temperature isn't going to help much if you drink regular coffee from 7 am until 11 pm non-stop. Yes, caffeine DOES interfere with your sleep, whether you think so or not.
