I remember this hotel very well. It was red and black with stairs leading below ground level. I attended a grammar school in that area and students used to make jokes about the place. I know it's quite old and my dad said there is some interesting history connected with this place; he's not quite sure, but he thinks it might have something to do with Thomas Edison or something. I would love to learn about its history; it was always such a mysterious place.
Not sure when it was built, but according to a December 1992 article in Chicago's Southwest News Herald, it was scheduled to be demolished in January of 1983. There are a few pictures available at http://eddiesrailroad.blogspot.com/search?q=jakter
