The security challenges that the People's Republic of China (PRC) faces compared to the US are somewhat similar and different. Being a communist nation, albeit reformed, the among PRC's main goal is to keep the majority of the population content and happy. However, dissents can threaten the PRC's legitimacy relatively easily and internal control is one of the main security concerns of the PRC.

The United States' major security challenges mostly rest outside of the US, such as international terrorism, the Middle East, politically unstable countries and persons. Frankly speaking, the US has made itself more of a target than China by involving itself in so many controversial issues.

The US and China, however do face problems that any world power does. Terrorism attempts to strike the US and China on domestic territory. (However, it is less reported in China)
