Italy invaded Abyssinia (now Ethiopia) in 1936 and it become part of Italian East Africa (Abyssinia, Italian Somaliland and Eritrea) and later invaded British Somaliland. During the East African Campaign (June 10, 1940 -- November 27, 1941) the Italians fought against the British and Commonwealth troops, but by the end of the campaign they had lost all theyr territories in East Africa. In 1939, Italy invaded Albania and occupied the country until 1943, but after the Surrender to the Allies the German's took over the country. The Dodecanese Islands had been part of the Italian Empire since 1918, and after the surrender to the Allies, the German's and British battled for controll of the islands which was known as the Dodecanese Campaign. Libya was also a Italian Colony, and in 1940, the Italians invaded Egypt in an attempt to capture the Suez Canal. The battle was inconclusive, and once the British were reinforced with the Commonwealth troops, the Italians were pushed back into Libya, and the British were close to taking the colony from the Italians until Rommel and his Afrika Korps entered the Continent This battle in North Africa was known as the North African Campaign. After defeat by the British for the second time at El-Alamein, the Axis began to crumble in North Africa, and by 1942, North Africa belonged to the Allies. During the Greco-Italian War in 1940, the Greek Army smashed Mussolini's weak forces and drove them back into Italian-occupied Albania. In 1941 Hitlers Army began the Balkans Campaign with its Allies Italy and Bulgaria, and successfully invaded Greece, Crete, and Yugoslavia. Considering that the Germans won the war themselves, Italy occupied about 70% of Greece and many areas of Croatia and Yugoslavia. Italy also occupied the British Ionian Islands. After the Italian Surrender, the Germans took over all Italian occupied areas in the Balkans. In 1940, after Mussolini realised France was about to fall, he sent his army into southern France and Corsica and occupied until 1943. After the Italian Surrender, the Germans took over all Italian occupied areas in Southern France and occupied Northern and Central Italy. By the end of Italy's participation in World War Two, it had lost all it's colonies and the Italian Empire fell. Rhys :)
