Many times in the past, city people have not always realised the impact droughts have. The current 2007 drought in Australia, is affecting city people as well. Very strict water restrictions are in place, but this does only affect gardens and not indoor use. Businesses that rely on gardening have suffered a reduction in income. The increase in some food prices is a city issue as well. Hopefully the good side of all of this will be that more non-farm people will understand in a small way the extreme hardship that such conditions may put Australia's farmers under, and the increased media coverage will highlight how essential farmers are to our everyday existence. It would be good to hear some more contributors thoughts on this issue.
