Historically, there were once massive cedar forests in the middle east. These forests were cut down, which lead to mass salinity and eventually desert. It triggered climate change that lead to entire civilizations abandoning perfectly functional cities. However, even these cedar forests were not rainforests as they did not have a sufficient amount of rain.
