There are almost no similarities between the two countries other than that (1) they recognize each other, have had violent relations with their neighbors and occupy territories that officially belong to their neighbors, (2) they are of comparable size and population, (3) contain humans and some animals, and (4) that some of those humans are white and some of them are black with interspersed minorities.

Some differences (of the many thousands include)

  • Economy - Israel is a first-world country whereas Rwanda is a rural, developing nation. Rwanda's gross domestic product per capita (an indicator of the economic situation) is $1538. Israel's is $38,000.
  • Internal Politics - Israel is a functioning liberal democracy whereas Rwanda is an illiberal democracy. Rwanda's president has broad powers; in Israel, power is held by the parliament.
  • Internal Repression - Rwanda had a genocide around 20 years ago whereas Israel has never had a genocide.
  • Climate - Israel is an arid to semi-arid country with low hills and flat coastline, whereas Rwanda is a landlocked country with tropical rainforests and high fluctuations in elevation. Rwanda has two rainy seasons each year. Israel has one.
  • Location - Israel is in the Middle East whereas Rwanda is in Central Africa
  • Colonizer - Israel was a former Ottoman Empire territory that passed to being a British colony after World War I whereas Rwanda was a German colony that passed to being a Belgian colony after World War I.
  • Languages - Israel has two official languages of Hebrew and Arabic whereas Rwanda has three official languages of Kinyarwanda, French, and English.
  • Religion - Israel has a Jewish majority with a large Muslim minority whereas Rwanda has a slight Catholic majority and a very large Protestant minority. Both also have less significant religious minorities.
