One because it became the 1st industrialised nation which boosted the countries income far beyond anywhere else. New technology was being invented such as the internal combustion engine, steel ect. This allowed us to create a huge army and navy able to explore the world capture and hold territories and eventually establish colonies while establishing government and democracy in new countries Britain was able to manipulate trade roots to their advantage again encroaching their wealth/power far beyond the French rivalry.
