mean to Panama
The physical geography of the region, particularly the mountainous terrain and dense tropical rainforests, significantly hindered the construction of the Panama Canal. The Cordillera mountain range posed major challenges, requiring extensive excavation and tunneling to create a viable waterway. Additionally, the region's heavy rainfall and swampy lowlands led to difficult working conditions and increased the risk of disease, particularly malaria and yellow fever, further complicating construction efforts.

There are no diamond mines in Panama, but the geography has been chosen as a diamond trade hub with diamond brokerage businesses. Apparently, gold mining does occur in the Donoso district.
From my geography school days I remember that they called it the 'Panama' canal because it runs through Poland, Austria, Nigeria, Argentina, Malta, and Azerbaijan in that order, hence the letters of each of those countries gave it the name...Panama Canal!
