To maintain control over Japan, the Shogun created a NEW CLASS STRUCTURE, at the top was the Shogun and the Bakufu. Then came the samurais and the daimyos (feudal lords), who could own pieces of land and have people to work on it. Then ca,e the farmers who were not allowed to stop working on their crops. After there were the artisans and then came the merchants that didn't have much to do because there was no trade. At the bottom of the class there were the out-casts, who were related to the death of animals or men and lived outside of the cities and last there were the non-humans, who were the slaves and people who didn't have any rights.

Japan
isolation
In the 1600s, Japan's isolation, primarily through the Sakoku policy, led to a significant narrowing of its worldview, fostering a sense of cultural homogeneity and national identity. On the positive side, this isolation allowed Japan to develop its arts, culture, and economy independently, preserving traditional practices and reducing foreign influence. However, the negatives included a lack of technological advancement and awareness of global developments, which ultimately hindered Japan's ability to compete with Western powers when it later emerged from isolation in the mid-19th century.
