In the Romance languages the fourth day of the week is dedicated to Jove, the King of the Gods, and at first this seems problematic - since Thor was not the king of the Norse gods by Viking times. But both Jove and Thor are thunder gods and sky gods, both are Oak gods, and there is some evidence that Thor may have been king of the gods in earlier Norse traditions, being later replaced by the Ash god Woden.
