The Mabo Decision was a High Court ruling which decided that there was a false declaration of Australia as 'Terra Nullis', and that the Torres Strait Islands have been inhibited continuously by Meriam People. This case was taken to court by Torres Strait Islander plaintiff Eddie Mabo. This ruling led to the passing of Native Title Act under the Howard Government in the mid 90's. The Wik Decision was based on the Native Title Act. It stated that the ineigenous people from the Cape York Peninsula could claim land rights to the cattle grazing land held by the crown. It was one of the first examples of the Native Title Act in progression.
