The official Alamo website indicates that construction began in 1724 and was completed in 1744, it took about twenty years to construct the Alamo compound. Construction of the church in the Alamo began in 1744, but was halted in 1762. The US Army began renovations to the church in 1850, the Long Barracks was restored to its original configuration in 1968. So, what you see today has taken over 200 years!
